Writing an eBook About the Nairobi Slums

Not long ago I did a comprehensive study on the Nairobi Slums reading about 30 research papers, 100s of articles and all the NGO and government website information on this subject. There are reams of information and most of it all says the same thing. This is one of the largest humanitarian challenges in the World’s Urban Slums.

When discussing this with a non-profit group, they suggested I tone down the content of the eBook and rather than calling for drastic measures to combat this problem gave me advice to call for more committees, studies and grass roots efforts. All we intentioned comments and yet that is what has been going on and the problems have not been solved.

There are 1000s and 1000s of volunteers working in the trenches, but people are still living in some of the most unhealthy conditions on the planet. It is a breeding ground for disease. This is why an eBook on the subject cannot BS or hide the reality. We need to bulldoze the slum and prevent this feces infested health risk.

The idea to start more committees will not work, it will take a hard core, strong leader to “Just Do it” because all the talk and political posturing will continue to go on for decades. In fact the dignitaries, officials and folks have been talking about this for decades, nothing, now the crisis of the Nairobi slums is fully blown “Super Crisis” and sincere folks are calling for more Committees?

Obviously they do not realize how many committees that are already dealing with this? And what have they done to solve the problem; nothing. The slums are still there and HIV/AIDS runs ramped. Indeed, I have sat on enough committees in my life to watch the process.

In fact in studying this Nairobi Slum issue, I noticed that the so-called leaders of Nairobi all went to Cancun for a big Committee last year? Cancun even; well it must be nice to waste the money that should be going to help the slum dwellers on a vacation. Such actions lead some people to believe that these people don’t care. If they cared they would take care of this issue.

Some protest groups claim that the officials are weak, politically corrupt and incompetent. I am not sure I would go that far in public to criticize these folks, but that is what many think. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
